Vintage clothes sizing and measurement guide

Finding your perfect fit

As a vintage clothing store, we know that shopping for one of a kind vintage pieces can be challenging due to sizing. It can be hard to tell how an item will fit you due to differences in how sizes have been labelled over the years. We know bodies can have all shapes and sizes, so how can you tell whether an item labelled as "Medium" will fit you or not?

To help you find the right fit, we provide detailed measurements in each product description.

  • Each piece is laid flat and measured in centimetres.
  • We also give the material type, which should give you an idea of stretch and structure.

For the most accurate fit, we recommend measuring a similar garment you own that fits well, using the same flat-lay method we use. Then, compare the dimensions to our listing to ensure your chosen piece feels just right when it arrives. Remember to adjust the measurements you make for the fit of the garment - oversized pieces will be slightly bigger, while slim fit pieces will be smaller.

How we measure each garment

Tops

For jackets, blouses, shirts, jumpers, t-shirts and hoodies/sweatshirts we measure:

  • Length down the back (top to bottom)
  • Width across the chest (pit to pit)
  • Sleeves along outside sleeve from shoudler to cuff (for long sleeve items)

Dresses

For dresses, we measure:

  • Length down the back (top to bottom)
  • Width across the chest (pit to pit)
  • Sleeves along outside sleeve from shoudler to cuff (for long sleeve items)

Bottoms

Fot jeans, trousers, skirts and shorts we measure:

  • Width across the waist (side to side, so total waist size is double the measurement)
  • Length along outside leg for trousers/shorts, and along back for skirts

With this information, you can confidently shop for vintage clothing and be sure that when your clothes arrive, they will fit you well.
